Remembering The Most Popular Toys Of Our Youth
Can you recall which toy was your favorite back when you were a kid? Kid’s taste in toys change with passing generations. We all had our favorite toys when we were young. Mine was the wooden yo yo. There was something about that little wooden wheel that was hypnotic. You could spend hours upon hours totally zoned in on getting that yo yo to do the latest trick you had seen.
Who remembers the slinky? I don’t know how many of those things were actually sold. But, I am willing to bet it was a very high number. Some creating person invented this long spring like metal toy that was capable of traversing down a set of steps all by itself. Who would have thought something so incredibly simple would have become so ridiculously popular? I hope he made a huge chunk of change from that idea.
Do you remember the hula hoop? When was the last time you saw someone playing with one? I am sure it was quite a while ago. These things could probably keep you in shape if you got hooked on using one. It’s funny how the simple toys were the ones that really caught on big.
Do you remember the GI Joe doll from when you were a kid? I guess the antique ones are worth quite a bit of money on the internet. I bet there are probably a ton of objects we had as kids that sell for a high price on the internet these days.
When I was a youngster, I remember everyone having a Lionel Train set around their Christmas tree. There were huge numbers of train fanatics. I had a cousin who had an entire town setup on plywood in his basement so he could work on the models throughout the entire year. I never could quite understand what it was about trains that made them so popular.
What about those electronic football games with the vibrating board? You know the ones. They had the little football players that you would setup on the board. Then you turn the thing on and it began vibrating. The vibrations made the players move around the playing field. Man that thing was cheesy. But it was fun though.
Were you one of those kids that had a classic game of jacks? The bag had a drawstring on it. Do you even remember how to play jacks? You would bounce a rubber ball on the ground. Then you try to grab the jacks while the ball was still airborne.
I bet you know someone who had some Lone Ranger objects. There were lots of Lone Ranger figurines. I can’t recall for sure, but I think there was a figurine of Tonto as well. High ho silver.
