Thinking About The Most Popular Toys Of Our Childhood Years
Can you remember what toy was your favorite when you were a kid? Kid’s taste in toys vary with passing generations. We each had our favorite toys growing up. My favorite was the yo yo. There was something about that little wooden toy that was hypnotic. You could spend hours upon hours totally focused on getting the thing to do the latest trick you had seen.
Another long forgotten toy is the slinky. I don’t know how many of those things were actually sold. I am willing to bet it was a very high number. Some genius invented this long spring like metal toy that was capable of walking down a set of stairs all by itself. Would you ever have thought that something so incredibly simple would have become so ridiculously popular? I hope he made a huge chunk of change from that idea.
The Nintendo Wii is bringing back the popularity of the hula hoop. When was the last time you saw somebody using a real one? I bet it was quite a while ago. These hoops could probably get you in shape if you got addicted to using one. It’s strange how the simple toys were the ones that really caught on big time.
Remember the GI Joe doll from when you were a youngster? I guess the original ones are worth quite a bit of money online. There are probably a bunch of objects we played with as children that sell for a high price on the internet these days.
When I was a youngster, I remember everybody having a Lionel Train set around their Christmas tree. I had a cousin who had an entire village setup in his basement so he could work on the railroad throughout the whole year. I never quite understood what it was about trains that made everybody want one.
What about those electronic football games with the vibrating board? Do you know the ones I mean? They had the little men that you would setup on the green metal football field. Then you turn the thing on and it began vibrating. The vibrations made the guys move around the playing field. Man that thing was crappy compared to today’s games. But it was fun though.
Were you one of the many kids that had a classic game of jacks? The bag had a drawstring on it. Do you even remember how to play a game of jacks? You would bounce a rubber ball on the ground. Then you try to swipe the jacks while the ball was still airborne.
I bet you know someone who had some Lone Ranger things. There were plenty of Lone Ranger figurines. I can’t recall for sure, but I think there was a Tonto figurine also. High ho silver.
